Seoul, South Korea

Hosted by Sofia University

Sofia University Bridges East and West with Groundbreaking "Mosim Conference" in Seoul

In a landmark event that brought together minds from across the globe, Sofia University hosted its first-ever conference in Korea on Saturday June 8, 2024. The "Mosim Conference," part of the university's Global Health Conference series, proved to be a melting pot of ideas, blending Western psychological approaches with Eastern philosophical traditions. The event was co-hosted by two innovative organizations: Wind & Flow DAO and Life Share.

Wind & Flow DAO, one of the co-hosts, is a unique blend of school, community, and network state, bringing together individuals who aim to create positive change in the world through personal transformation. With a focus on the values of "mosim" (care), "salim" (livelihood), and "harmony," Wind & Flow DAO designs new communities for what they see as humanity's greatest period of transition. The organization also operates a band called "Yangbans", which explores new performance formats, and runs a village bookstore called "Pulmujil" and a live music bar, "The Studio HBC," in Haebangchon.

Life Share, the other co-host, was founded in Seoul in 2017 and has evolved from popular camps focused on sharing vulnerabilities and engaging in deep life discussions to a full-fledged urban brand called "Inner City." Launched in 2021, Inner City caters to those seeking inner exploration and has been embraced by urban dwellers looking for a spiritual playground. With physical spaces in Cheongryong-dong and Hapjeong-dong, Inner City hosts spiritual parties in hidden cultural spaces and is even developing a "school of magic" for aspiring practitioners, all while receiving support from Korean music entertainment companies and the Won Buddhist community.

Held in the heart of Seoul at the innovative co-living space Episode Sinchon 396, the conference drew an eclectic mix of academics, practitioners, and enthusiasts.

The event's title, "Mosim," a Korean concept embodying the transcendence of self, set the tone for a day of profound insights and transformative experiences.

This artistic interlude perfectly complemented the academic discussions, embodying the conference's holistic approach to understanding consciousness and personal growth.

Professor Caifang Zhu shared valuable insights on the current state of transpersonal psychology and education in China, offering a comparative perspective that enriched the global dialogue.

Using innovative conversation cards, participants engaged in deep, meaningful dialogues, forging connections that transcended cultural and professional boundaries. This session embodied the spirit of "Mosim," allowing attendees to experience firsthand the power of vulnerability and authentic connection.

As the formal proceedings concluded, attendees were gifted copies of "Ecstasy - Finding the Divine Within Me," a timely publication by Professor Sung Hae-young from Seoul National University's Religious Studies department. This thoughtful gesture provided participants with a resource to continue their exploration of consciousness and spirituality beyond the conference.

The energy and enthusiasm generated during the conference spilled over into an after-party at Inner City Hapjeong, where speakers and attendees continued their discussions in a more relaxed setting. This informal gathering cemented new friendships and potential collaborations, with many participants expressing excitement about future projects and partnerships.

This pioneering event not only marked Sofia University's entry into the Korean academic landscape but also set a new standard for cross-cultural dialogue in transpersonal psychology. By bringing together diverse perspectives from East and West, the Mosim Conference has opened new avenues for global cooperation in the pursuit of understanding human consciousness and potential.

As attendees departed, there was a palpable sense of excitement about the future of transpersonal studies and the role of events like these in shaping a more interconnected, aware global community. Sofia University's bold step into Korea, in collaboration with forward-thinking organizations like Wind & Flow DAO and Life Share, promises to be just the beginning of a fascinating journey in bridging cultures, minds, and spirits.

The Mosim Conference has undoubtedly set the stage for a new era of global collaboration in transpersonal psychology, one that honors both Western scientific rigor and Eastern philosophical wisdom. As the field continues to evolve, The following series of Mosim conference will play a crucial role in shaping a more holistic, inclusive approach to understanding the depths of human consciousness and potential in Korea.
