Jorge Ferrer, PhD
Jorge N. Ferrer, PhD., is a clinical psychologist, TEDx speaker, and educator. He was a professor of psychology for more than 20 years at California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco, where he also served as chair of the Department of East-West Psychology. He is the author of Revisioning Transpersonal Theory: A Participatory Vision of Human Spirituality (SUNY Press, 2002), Participation and the Mystery: Transpersonal Essays in Psychology, Education, and Religion (SUNY Press, 2017), and Love and Freedom: Transcending Monogamy and Polyamory (Rowman & Littlefield, 2021), as well as the co-editor of The Participatory Turn: Spirituality, Mysticism, Religious Studies (SUNY Press, 2008). Considered one of the main architects of contemporary transpersonal psychology, Ferrer received the Fetzer Institute’s Presidential Award for his seminal work on consciousness studies, was a member of the Esalen Institute’s Center for Theory and Research, and was an advisor to the Religions for Peace organization at the United Nations.
